As climate change continues to reshape agricultural systems in Somalia, practical, large-scale learning initiatives are becoming increasingly important. In response to this need, eFarming Somalia successfully organized a Mega Field Day training, bringing together 100 farmers from urban and peri-urban areas to strengthen their knowledge and adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices.

The Mega Field Day was designed as a hands-on, experience-driven learning event that moved beyond classroom-style training. Farmers engaged directly with real farming environments where climate-smart techniques were demonstrated and discussed in practical terms. This approach ensured that learning was relevant, applicable, and immediately transferable to participants’ own farms.

During the training, farmers explored how climate-smart agriculture can improve productivity while reducing vulnerability to climate risks. Sessions focused on adaptive farming practices suited to urban and peri-urban contexts, where land pressure, water scarcity, and input costs are often high. Through guided demonstrations and discussions, participants gained deeper understanding of sustainable resource management and resilient production methods.

Digital agriculture was a key component of the Mega Field Day. eFarming Somalia introduced farmers to digital advisory tools that support informed decision-making, including guidance on weather variability, crop management, and market-oriented production planning. By integrating digital insights with field-based learning, farmers were able to see how technology complements traditional knowledge rather than replacing it.

The Mega Field Day also emphasized market readiness. Farmers learned how climate-smart production contributes to consistent quality and stable supply, both of which are essential for accessing reliable markets. By aligning farming practices with market demand, participants were better positioned to improve incomes and reduce post-harvest losses.

Beyond technical skills, the training fostered collaboration and peer learning among the 100 participating farmers. The collective setting encouraged experience sharing, problem-solving, and the formation of networks that extend beyond the training day. This community-based approach reinforces long-term adoption of climate-smart practices.

At eFarming Somalia, we believe that scaling climate-smart agriculture requires engaging farmers where they are and learning by doing. The Mega Field Day reflects our commitment to delivering inclusive, practical, and impactful training that responds to real challenges faced by farmers in urban and peri-urban areas.

By equipping 100 farmers with climate-smart knowledge and digital agriculture insights, this Mega Field Day contributes to building a more resilient, productive, and future-ready agricultural sector. As eFarming Somalia continues to expand its field-based initiatives, such trainings remain a cornerstone of our mission to support sustainable agriculture across Somalia.
